AND PEARLS ARE TEARS

          A POEM is a pearl
Built around some hidden pain.
Its beauty shines within the mind
And lends a soft enchantment to the heart.
It sings a special meaning to the soul;
A song of loveliness
That hides its inner wound,
And brings to lips a tender smile,
A surge of joy,
A fierce passion,
A tear to the eye,
And to the mind, a dream of deathless hope.

It sings a music of desires
And fulfillment to the heart,
Of human needs And loneliness,
Of yesterdays and tomorrows,
Of earth . . . and things beyond.

Singing, moving, living words
That are born of agony,
But bear witness of immortality.
Whispered over graves at evening,
From the fox-holes of war at dawn,
They live to shine eternally
In the annals of memory.
Words of power and beauty . . .
Human pearls
That form a footpath
To Eternity.
